IMAHANLAHIMI JAMES 6 WICKETS INSPIRE FGCWARRI AN IMPORTANT WIN OVER IBEJU CC

Ibeju came close to their first win of the season against FGCWarri on sunday with a fantastic bowling display and at one point the had FGC reeling at 57 for 5.

Many will agree that the performance was as a reward for a change in tactics as skipper Austin Areghan elected to field first for the first time this season. The decision paid instant dividends when Garuba(3 for 19 in 5), enjoying a kind of renaissance pegged back Salako’s off stump in the second over to set the ball rolling. He struck again in his next over after a series of no balls to bowl Oklo. After Garuba was taken off the attack, his replacement Kelechi Duru(2 for 35) struck twice to remove Ilube and Oduyebo to reduce FGCW to 57 for 5. At this stage, it looked like it was going to be a easy finish for Ibeju, but up stepped Prosper Mgbawan(52), the young wicketkeeper batsman who had played cautiously up till that point. First he scored 19 off an Areghan(0 for 33 in 3) over including a massive 6 over deep square and into the arcade. Prosper’s half century came despite wickets falling at regular intervals as the Ibeju captain chopped and changed his bowling attack in search of the breakthrough and by the time Prosper finally holed out to Sowole (1 for 29 in 7), caught at mid off the score was 160.

A target of 169 looked achievable for Ibeju but they lost Olympio early on to Omojezele before Amusa needlessly ran himself out. Skipper Areghan stuck in for a while with Ayannaike once again proving to be the star man in Ibeju’s batting line up and when he was bowled by a well executed slower ball from Oduyebo, they were in an all too familiar.
Usman Yusuf put up a brave fight scoring 18* but eventually ran out of partners. The star of FGCW’s bowling was James Imalahinmi who took 6 wickets for 20 runs in 7.5 overs
